Franklin County in North Carolina is a very beautiful region, that has so much to offer to all kinds of people. It is situated on the northern Piedmont region of the state of North Carolina and its beauties attract people that often decide to even make it their home. Franklin County contains the towns of Louisburg, Bunn, Franklinton, and Youngsville. There also are many small communities of the rural areas in-between these towns. Remember that Franklin County covers 494 square miles, so there is enough place for anyone there! This county gets its name from Benjamin Franklin.

Many authors were inspired by these beautiful places. Perhaps you have heard about the 1984 book The Day the Black Rain Fell by W.F. Shelton. This book is based on real happening in Franklin County. The book tells drama, crime, and punishment of two brothers, who have been punished for the murder of a Jewish peddler. On the humid Friday the 13th in July 1884 in Louisburg, Tom and Calvin Coley’s punishment was carried out on the front lawn of the Franklin County Courthouse. They were then carried in a wagon back to their birth place where they would be buried.

The county seat of Franklin County is Louisburg, which was originally settled in the early 1700's by groups from the Tidewater regions of North Carolina and Virginia and has European influences. The history of this county goes back to 1779 when it was formally created, when Bute County was divided to form both Franklin and Warren Counties.

Franklin County has always been the perfect place for a main income to come in from agriculture, due to the open fields for animals, the large water supplies like creeks and the Tar River and the healthy dirt for growing. People earn their living through farming tobacco, cotton, soybeans, as well as by raising cattle, goats, and other livestock that they finally sell.
