While we all use printers on a daily basis, there isn?t much pause for thought on how it all works. I mean, how often do you sit contemplating your navel as to why your printer works the way it does? Not often, I?m guessing. Besides, printers are just another one of those technological inventions you have to have, that burns out after a few years and that has to be replaced. If this sounds like you, the whole printing thing is not so much a miracle as it is an unfortunate necessity.

But don?t let your attitude toward technology extend to the glorious gift that is the printer! If only you knew what skill, what precision went into the design of the ink cartridge alone. Well, since I have your attention, let me tell you all about it.

Let?s start with that printer ink cartridge itself. No matter what brand it is?Epson, HP, Brother or Lexmark?printer ink cartridges consist of very similar parts. Ink cartridges either use a sponge, a tank or a bag of sorts within the cartridge chamber. These items hold the ink until it is ready to be placed on the paper.

Ink cartridges also need air in order to function properly. They work off a sort of vacuum mechanism that works to replace the ink used with air. The majority of printer ink cartridges use a sponge inside which holds the ink before it is used. When the printer is in use, a vacuum is created and ink is pulled from the sponge to the nozzles to then be fired onto the paper.

While I?ve yet to understand all of the finer processes of printer ink cartridges, I do think it?s pretty interesting you?ve got vacuums, sponges, ball bearings in some cases and even electrically charge quartz crystals to make it all work!

All of this ink is stored inside of the cartridge so that when it comes time to print, it is ready to go and will be sent to the nozzles and then fired onto the paper into that document you need to turn in for class or a few family vacation photos. Whatever you use your printer for, just know that the ink cartridge makes it all happen
